10 Best Indonesian Movie

Indonesian film industry is not as famous as the Hollywood film industry. But, Indonesian filmmakers still can make a decent movie to watch.

I’m a movie lover. So, as an Indonesian, I want to Introduce 10 best Indonesian movie (my version).

1. Belahan Jiwa (Soulmate)


Synopsis :

Cairo, Baby Blue, Arimbi, and Farlyna are a soulmates. They think they have a connection each other and it’s reveals from when they are have a boyfriend. Unknowingly by them, the quartet share their love to one person named Bumi, a man who can adapted of their different personality. He recently shares his love to only one woman with tragic past and trauma named Cempaka. Cempaka always been a weirs-act or something like that. But, when all of women pregnant, the problems shown and will end in a disturbing answer.

Starring :

Dian Sastrowardoyo as Cepaka a woman with strange occasion because her traumatized and painful past.

Rachel Maryam as Cairo is a painter.

Dinna Olivia as Farlyna is a sexy fashion designer.

Nirina Zubir as Baby Blue is an architect.

2. Cin(Ta)

Synopsis :

This movie is about love and god. Cina , an 18 year-old freshman Batak Chinese boy, was ready to conquer the world with a strong faith, yet naïve, since it had never been tested by failure.

Annisa, a 24 year-old Javanese Moslem woman whose education was held back because of her career in the movie industry. Her fame and beauty left her so lonely that she drew a sad face on her finger as her companion. Until one day, another finger came and she was no longer lonely.

God, is the most unpredictable character. Everybody tried to describe Him. Everybody thought they knew Him. Every art tried to figure Him. But nothing is really like Him….or Her. God loved Cina and Annisa, but Cina and Annisa could not love each other because they called God by different names.

3. Ayat-Ayat Cinta

Synopsis :

Ayat-ayat cinta (The Verses of Love) is an Indonesian film by Hanung Bramantyo. It is a romantic religious film which is based on best-selling novelwith the same title by Habiburrahman El Shirazy.

Ayat Ayat Cinta is the tale of a virtuous Muslim protagonist who overcomes all obstacles in life maintaining pure ideals.

Fahri bin Abdillah is a poor, intelligent student who wins a scholarship to complete his graduate degree at Egypt‘s esteemed Al Azhar University. Very disciplined and dedicated by nature, Fahri embraces his life in Cairo, completing his studies and translation of religious books with full enthusiasm, exactly according to pre-determined targets.

Only one goal is left unattempted: the pursuit of marriage.

For Fahri is innocent and pure, and does not believe in the concept of relationships prior to marriage. He is inarticulate and shy around women. All his life, only two women have been close to him – his mother and grandmother.

Life changes drastically in Egypt for he suddenly finds himself surrounded by four beautiful, distinctly different women.

Rianti Cartwright as Aisha Greimas, a German-Turkish student in Cairo haunts Fahri with her beautiful eyes. Following an incident on the metro where Fahri defends her against narrow minded bigoted Muslims, both immediately develop feelings for each other.

Carissa Putri as Maria Girgis, a shy, open-minded Coptic neighbor who is attracted to the teachings of the Quran, finds herself falling in love with Fahri (a fact she only reveals to her diary)

Zaskia Adya Mecca as Noura Bahadur, an abused Egyptian neighbor, develops strong romantic feelings for Fahri, who in turn simply sympathizes with her situation. His romantic rejection destroys her and eventually leads to a false accusation of rape.

Melanie Putria as Nurul binti Ja’far Abdur Razaq, a student at Al Azhar like Fahri, is the Muslim daughter of a renowned Indonesian cleric. Fahri feels unworthy of her and thus ignores his feelings for her, leaving her confused and guessing.

4. Laskar Pelangi



Synopsis :

This movie is base on a novel which is have the same title. Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Wrrior) is a great reading for those who searching for the meaning of life itself. The story is focused on the life in Timah – Belitong, an island in Indonesia. IKAL, the main character that represents Andrea Hirata, the novel”s writer himself. His poor family condition doesn”t keep his father to give IKAL a proper education. IKAL was sent to the village school that far from the standard of education. The school only has 10 students. But fortunately, in this school, IKAL learned many important things in his life. More than learning how to read, count or even being a champion. With all member of Rainbow Warriors : MAHAR (an exentric artist), LINTANG (the genius one), TRAPANI (a mother complex), SAMSON (the bulk), SAHARA (the only girl), KUCAI (talkative), HARUN (who always trapped in his childhood life), SYAHDAN (the loser), and A KIONG (brother of IKAL”s first love), he lived his school life that full of surprised. Defeating another school in carnival contest, debating a professor in debate contest, until searching for FLO, child from the rich family, who finally join in Rainbow Warriors” school. They did a lot of craziness, almost everyday. Even crossing the sea to find a shaman loved by MAHAR and FLO. But everything has an end. Economic condition became main forces that separated them.

5. 9 Naga


Synopsis :

Best Man in Indonesia is a criminal!
Life is choices. Sometimes the choice is taken willingly, other times by necessity. Thus the story of three men who had been friends since childhood: Marwan, Donny and Lenny.

All three take the same road and fight till the last moment for their friendship. Marwan is respected by his friends as a tough guy. Assisted by Donny and Lenny he make a living as a hitman.

Three of them always hand in hand finish each job receives. Meanwhile, in the heart of each show awareness that the life they lead did not promise a better future.

In the midst of their anxiety, an event that is not in the guessing going on. Since then they seemed to awaken from a long dream and feel sick of their own life choices that will be taken first.

Now they must struggle to escape from the grip of their own crimes.

6. Nagabonar Jadi 2


Synopsis :

Nagabonar Jadi 2 is a comedy movie starring Deddy Mizwar and Tora Sudiro as father and son. This movie is a sequel to 1986 hit movie Nagabonar. The story revolves around the relationship between the now old Nagabonar, a pickpocket who became a self-proclaimed general during Indonesia’s War of Independence, and his only son Bonaga. The movie touches on various subjects concerning the different views of the older generation and the younger, post-modern generation of Indonesia. These subjects include patriotism, traditional values, and love.

The story begins when old Nagabonar comes to Jakarta from Medan at the request of his son, a successful young businessman who runs a large company with three of his closest friends, Pomo (Darius Sinathrya), Ronnie (Uli Herdinansyah) and Jaki (Michael Muliadro). Conflict and hilarity ensues when Bonaga tells his father the plan to sell their old palm plantation, where his mother and grandmother are buried along with his father’s best friend Bujang. Nagabonar’s outrage at what he thinks of as a desecration is then quickly subdued by Bonaga’s consultant and love interest, Monita (Wulan Guritno), At least until Nagabonar learns that the would-be buyers of his land are Japanese, people who come from the very same country he fought against during the war of independence.

7. Gie


Synopsis :

Soe Hok Gie is an activist who lived in the sixties. Set in the darkest era of Indonesian modern history, GIE is an interpretation of what happened based on his journal. He is a history student when his world stretches between politics and personal life. A critical young man, he sounds his great concerns about his collapsing nation. Yet, he is sensitive and romantic. He loves to explore the mountains, to admire the great beauty of nature. His life is a clash between the high drama of national political events and the small world of friendship and romance. He is falling apart when he sees that his constant battle for justice and truth gives labor to another dictatorial regime, and caused the massacre of millions suspected communists, including his childhood friend. He continues to fight but his uncompromised idealism drives people away. His best friends left him. The woman he loves rejects him. From time to time, nature is a place where Gie finds peace and it’s where his life comes to an end. Gie dies on the summit of the highest mountain in Java, just a day before his 27th birthday.

8. Rumah Dara

Synopsis :

Adjie and Astrid, married couples will be blessed with the presence of first child.They went with a friend to bandung on one night.The journey is the last attempt Adjie to say goodbye to her sister, Ladya.The two brothers did not get along, and tomorrow Adjie should go to Australia to start a new life.
Their meeting did not go smoothly at first. Ladya always blames his brother for the tragedy in the past.
Travel stops when a beautiful woman approached them with the worries and the environment.

Because the intention to help girls,they all finally bring this woman to go home.After they were in her house,they were introduced to an elegant and mysterious woman,named dara.intention here is sincere and good intentions to start a disaster.

10. Ada Apa Dengan Cinta

Synonsis :

Indonesian filmmaker Rudy Soejarwo directs the teen movie Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (What’s Up With Love?). Set in Jakarta, the film involves the romance between high school girl Cinta (played by Southeast Asian pop singer and teen magazine cover girl Dian Sastrowardoyo) and a boy named Rangga (Nicholas Saputra). She learns that his father has been banned from teaching and is later attacked for his political views. In addition, Cinta’s best friend attempts to take her life due to a domestic violence situation with her family. What’s Up With Love? was screened in the U.S. at the 2002 Hawaii Film Festival.
